Kōrero: Cultural go-betweens

Sir Peter Buck

Sir Peter Buck

Ethnologist Peter Buck (Te Rangi Hīroa) shakes hands with Prime Minister Peter Fraser (left) after being knighted at Government House, Wellington, in 1949. Buck's Irish-born wife Margaret stands behind them. Like many of the most effective cultural go-betweens, Buck was of mixed ethnic origin and was equally proud of both sides of his heritage.
