Private sale

Sometimes sellers decide to market their own properties to avoid paying a real estate agent’s commission. There are some companies that assist people to do this, including Homesell, which provides services including photography, internet and print advertising, street and home signs, and custom-made brochures. Here, sellers Hamish and Megan Paton, and their daughter Jorja, stand outside the Auckland property they sold with the assistance of Homesell in 2007.
