Palmerston to Ranfurly and beyond

Palmerston to Ranfurly and beyond

The place names on State Highway 85 in Otago are a journey in time. Palmerston is named after Lord Palmerston (1784–1865), the British foreign minister and prime minister of the 1830s to 1860s. Ranfurly is after Lord Ranfurly, governor of New Zealand from 1897 to 1904. The towns were named in 1862 and 1898 respectively.
