The Waipū Highland pipe band

The Waipū Highland pipe band

From 1896, when New Zealand’s first civilian pipe band was founded in Invercargill, pipe bands have been a familiar presence at parades and festive events. Annual competitions pit bands from such widely separated places as Invercargill and Waipū (the band in the picture) against each other.
