Taahoe Steele (left) and Les Innes, employees at Big Fresh supermarket in Johnsonville, Wellington, celebrate their store’s first day selling wine, in April 1997. Supermarkets in New Zealand have been allowed to sell wine since 1990. Since then they have captured the lion’s share of domestic wine sales.
