Central Otago vineyard

Central Otago vineyard

Central Otago is the world’s most southerly wine-growing region, and has icy winters, hot summers and long dry autumns. Award-winning wines were first produced there in the 1880s, but this early success was not repeated for nearly a century. Central Otago’s modern wine-growing industry started in 1976, when a vineyard was planted in Wānaka.
