Egg-cup Podzol (2 o 2)

Egg-cup Podzol

This egg-cup Podzol in the Whangārei area shows the silica-dominant, white central portion that has had all of the iron and aluminium leached out. The deepest part of the white layer was closest to the tree that previously grew there (probably a kauri), where leaching was most intense. A more compact subsoil lies beneath.
