The Magyar Millennium Park

The Magyar Millennium Park

The Hungarian presence in New Zealand is not particularly conspicuous – Hungary’s only national memorial is the Magyar Millennium Park in Wellington. It was opened in 2003, three years after Hungary celebrated its millennium as a Christian state, and symbolises the gratitude of New Zealand Hungarians to their adoptive country for taking them in as refugees. The park includes a carved wooden gateway, which was a gift from the Hungarian government.
