Employment by industry, sector and region, 2006

The employment structure varies significantly between regions, as this series of maps showing the proportions employed in major industry sectors, by region, demonstrates. Regions away from the main centres have higher proportions of their workforce employed in agriculture and in manufacturing, whilst professional employment is more significant in the main centres. But not all industry sectors vary regionally – sectors which are population-based such as health and education tend to be have a similar weighting in all regions.
