Stripped classical buildings follow on from the ornate buildings of the 19th century, but have simple, less decorative forms. The ASB bank in Hastings Street, Napier (1932), is a good example, with its shallow columns and plain window treatment. It employs art deco motifs in a restrained style. The most interesting and unusual are the Māori motifs above the main entrance and columns.
