Debbie Stewart of the Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust uses falconry techniques to train a young New Zealand falcon to hunt independently. Later the bird will be released into the wild. The New Zealand falcon is protected by law and cannot be kept for recreational falconry. However, the trust has a permit to save orphaned or hurt falcons and raise them in captivity.
