Cartoon about sports arenas

Cartoon about sports arenas

This cartoon appeared in May 2008, at a time when there were fierce debates in both Auckland and Dunedin about new sporting stadiums. In Auckland the need for a large ground to host the finals of the Rugby World Cup led to suggestions that a new stadium should be built on the Auckland waterfront as an alternative to the redevelopment of Eden Park. In Dunedin there was a push, which was eventually successful, to replace Carisbrook with a new covered stadium. Elsewhere there had also been substantial investment in major sporting arenas: Wellington built a new stadium and in Christchurch extensive new stands had been erected at Jade Stadium.
