Story: Weeds of the bush
Fast-growing jasmine (Jasminum polyanthum) smothers and kills forest plants from the ground to the canopy, and prevents the growth of native seedlings. Jasmine and other problem climbers are still popular with gardeners, who may not realise the damage some garden plants can wreak in native bush. The book Plant me instead, published by the Department of Conservation in 2005, gives alternatives to weed species and information on killing and controlling weeds.
