Looking north from Jumbo
Two trampers walk along the ridge line of the Tararua Range, from Jumbo peak towards Three Kings and Girdlestone. The range is part of the North Island main range. It was formed by the collision of the Pacific and Australian plates, which tilted blocks of greywacke and argillite rock upward. Later weathering has created deep gorges and valleys.
