Graveyard seamounts, Chatham Rise

Graveyard seamounts, Chatham Rise

Seamounts are prominent features on New Zealand’s sea floor. The Graveyard seamount complex consists of 28 seamounts on the northern slopes of the Chatham Rise. The largest rises from a depth of 1,100 metres to a peak at 750 metres below the surface. It is an area of high biological productivity and is one of the main spawning sites for the commercially fished orange roughy. (Vertical exaggeration = 4x).
