There was massive public interest in the first series of rugby games between the South African Springbok team and the All Blacks in 1921. The first test in Dunedin was won by the All Blacks, 13–5. The Springboks won the second test in Auckland, 9–5. The deciding test was at Athletic Park, Wellington. There was terrible rain and wind, yet large crowds assembled on the embankment to watch the deciding game. It finished nil–all.
