In the 1950s Peter Stichbury spent time at Bernard Leach's pottery in St Ives, England, and then travelled to Nigeria, where he worked with British expatriate potter Michael Cardew and indigenous Nigerian potters. His work reflects these influences. The screw-top lid of this glazed earthenware teapot is similar to those made by Michael Cardew.
