Christianity was initially welcomed and seen as bringing peace to the Ngāti Porou people, who became strong followers. This window at St Mary’s Church in Tikitiki is a memorial to those Ngāti Porou who died in the First World War. The honours board indicates that the memorial is to men from Torere to Muriwai.
