In 2011 vineyards occupied the greater part of the Wairau plain, outside the built-up areas of Blenheim and Renwick and the salt-laden soils along the coast. The lower Awatere valley, with Seddon at its centre, was less fully occupied by vineyards. There were more plantings in the north-facing river valleys which open onto the Wairau plain, in parts of the middle Wairau valley, and near the mouth of the Waimā River. The vineyards south of Kaikōura are not shown on this map.
