DC10 missing

Television news broadcasts on the evening of 28 November 1979 electrified viewers. It was announced that contact had been lost with an Air New Zealand scenic flight to Antarctica, and that the DC10 aircraft was overdue at Christchurch airport. When interviewed near midnight, Air New Zealand's chief executive was forced to concede that the aircraft had probably crashed.
