‘Now is the time to act’: Prime Minister announces COVID-19 lockdowns

Three weeks after New Zealand reported its first case of COVID-19, case numbers were growing and the virus had begun spreading in the community. Advised that tens of thousands of New Zealanders might die if no preventative measures were taken, the government decided to act to slow the spread of the virus.

In this video, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern gives an historic address announcing a nationwide stay at home order, restricting people’s movements and activities to those deemed essential.
