Pania Newton (Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa, Waikato, Ngāti Mahuta), spokesperson for Save Our Unique Landscape, which led the movement against a planned housing development at Ihumātao in Māngere, south Auckland. An occupation of the land lasted from 2016 until late 2020, when the government agreed to purchase the land from Fletcher Building. He Pūmautanga, a memorandum of understanding, was signed between the Kīngitanga, the Crown and Auckland Council to work together to decide the future of the land.
