Slicing and wrapping machine

Slicing and wrapping machine

Most bread is now sold ready-sliced and wrapped in plastic bags by machines such as this one at the Quality Bakers plant in East Tamaki, Auckland. Slicing and wrapping of bread were unheard of before 1940. In 1963 sliced wrapped bread represented only 30% of total production – by 1977, 67% was sliced.
