At the time this picture was taken in the early 1900s the farm of the Heine family in Nelson was run by Joseph Heine. Joseph was the youngest son of J. W. C. Heine who, along with Johann Wohlers, was dispatched to New Zealand by the North German Mission Society to establish a mission for Māori.
