Whakarewarewa tourist activities today

Tourist guide Mikaire Norris shows visitors around hot pools at Whakarewarewa. The Whakarewarewa thermal reserve is run by the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute. In 1963 an act of Parliament empowered its predecessor, the Rotorua Arts and Crafts Institute, to take over the management of the thermal reserve from the Tourism and Publicity Department.
