Story: Taranaki region

Thorny tipple (4th of 4)

Thorny tipple

In 2000 an exhibition on the ecology and associated technology of boxthorn in Taranaki was curated by the Taranaki Museum. Museum staff and friends were persuaded to risk life and limb to collect kilograms of boxthorn berries from the spiky plant. These were then made into wine by New Plymouth’s Cottage Wines for the opening ceremony.
