The poster for the 1973 adventure film Rangi's catch uses a stylised typeface that calls to mind Māori tattoo designs. Several Māori cast members later became prominent movie actors, especially Temuera Morrison, then 11 years old, who went on to play the lead in films such as Once were warriors. The film's writer-director-producer, Michael Forlong, was a New Zealander who trained at the National Film Unit before working for British television. Rangi's catch was originally made as a British children's serial, and has been described as one of the best children's films ever made.
