Rory Fallon scores for the All Whites, 2009

Men in white New Zealand football uniforms and men in red uniforms leap for the ball in front of a football goal. The game is taking place in a stadium.

To qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup New Zealand had to win the Oceania Football Confederation Nations Cup – which they did easily – then face Bahrain, the fifth-placed team in the Asian confederation. The teams drew 0–0 in Bahrain; and before a sell-out crowd at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, the All Whites won 1–0, to qualify. The moment shown here was the only scoring action of the match. It was just before half-time when Rory Fallon, who played professional football in England, headed home the vital goal.
