Cho Oyu expedition team, 1952

After taking part in a 1951 Everest expedition led by the British, Edmund Hillary, with fellow New Zealanders Earle Riddiford and George Lowe, took part in a reconnoitre of Cho Oyu, an 8,000-metre peak on the Tibetan border. In the front row of this shot of team members are (from left) leader Eric Shipton, Charles Evans and George Lowe.
