Apple crumble and Granny Smith

Apples – especially green apples such as Granny Smiths – are often used for dessert fillings, especially pies, sponges and crumbles.

Apple crumble
Peel four green or cooking apples and slice. Lightly stew, and sweeten to taste. Place in an ovenproof dish. In a bowl, mix 125 g butter and ½ cup brown sugar. Add 1 cup flour, ½ cup rolled oats and ½ cup coconut. Mix with fingertips or process in a food processor until the texture resembles breadcrumbs.Sprinkle crumble mixture over apple and bake 30–40 minutes at 180°C, until the topping is crisp and golden brown.
