Satellite station

Satellite station

The Warkworth satellite station opened in 1971. New Zealand television viewers could now watch overseas events live, rather than wait for footage to be flown in days later. The site was chosen because the ground was strong enough to support the vast weight of the satellite dish and pedestal.
