Island Bay beach

Island Bay beach

Swimmers head for the chilly waters of Cook Strait while others relax on Island Bay’s sandy beach in early 2007. Anchored in the bay are the boats of the suburb’s fishing community, established by Italian immigrants in the late 19th century. Many of their descendants still live in Island Bay.
