The first editorial of Straight Furrow on 15 November 1941 explained the paper’s name: ‘We hope to plough a “Straight Furrow” literally and metaphorically, to set a high standard in journalism, and to go straight towards our objective, veering neither to the right nor to the left, undeviating in our aim to support the farmers’ interests’.
