This Scout shirt with its many badges was worn by a member of the Stokes Valley St Philips troop in Hutt Valley in the 1980s. The uniform and its regalia of badges based on achievement, which gave greater status and rank, the scarf and its woggle, all betrayed the Scouts' militaristic origins. Over time Scout uniforms and those of other youth organisations became less formal and less military in appearance.
