Ahakoa te maha o ngā whakaaro mō te ara i haere ai a Mataatua, e whakaae tahi ana ōna iwi whakaheke o Te Tai Tokerau me Te Moana-a-Toi e tīraha ana te waka ki roto i te whanga o Ōtākou nei. I te tau 1986 ka tū te hui whakamaumahara a ngā iwi nei.
