Ko Wairaka te tamāhine a Toroa, te rangatira o Mataatua. E kī ana i te rewanga o te waka ki te moana, ka whakatauāki a ia, ‘Me whakatāne au i ahau nei!’ Nō muri mai huaina ai te ingoa o Whakatāne. Kei ētahi iwi e kī ana nā te tuahine o Toroa, nā Muriwai kē te waka arataki ki uta.
