Story: Cricket

Huge crowd, Eden Park, 1982

Forty-three thousand people crowded into Eden Park on 13 February 1982 when New Zealand played and beat Australia in a one-day game. Here some spectators are wandering across the pitch between innings. There were 74 arrests for drunkenness and disorderly conduct, but there was also some enthralling cricket. Chasing New Zealand's score of 240 for six, the Australians made only 194 despite their batsman Greg Chappell scoring a century. The last six Australian wickets fell for only 12 runs which caused great excitement among the crowd.
