Directions for a stonemason, 1832

These instructions for stonemason William Parrot, for the construction of a stone house at Kerikeri (Kiddee Kiddee), were written by the civil engineer of the colony of New South Wales, Alexander Kinghorne Junior in 1832.

Directions for the Stone Mason in building the Mill House at Kiddee Kiddee

The bottom of the Eye for the Water Wheel Shaft to be 2 feet 6 inches above the Stones marked by Parrott and the Foundation of the End wall of the Mill House to be at least 7 feet lower then the Bottom of the Eye before mentioned. The Eye to be right in the Centre of the end of the House and to be left three feet square. The tops of the two Beams for the Millstones to be seven feet from the bottom of the Eye for the shaft the one to be within about three inches of the end walls the other to be six feet clear of the first. The tops of the Jousts to be nine inches higher than the tops of the Beams for the Millstones
