Tararua wind farm

Construction of the largest wind farm in the Southern Hemisphere began in 1998. The Tararua farm is on an extremely windy site at the northern end of the Tararua Range, 10 kilometres north-east of Palmerston North. By 2004 the Tararua wind farm held 103 660-kilowatt wind turbines and generated 68 megawatts of energy.
