Whanganui Māori and the Moutoa flag (3rd of 3)

Whanganui Māori and the Moutoa flag

The Pākehā women of Whanganui town were also relieved after the Battle of Moutoa, so they prepared a flag. Of white silk, it was 2.5 metres long and featured a Māori and a European hand clasped in friendship beneath a crown. The flag was presented to the local tribes on the occasion of the unveiling of the Moutoa memorial. In this photo, presumably taken soon after the occasion, local warriors pose beneath the flag.
