Story: Whanganui region
The area between the Turakina and Rangitīkei rivers, south-east of Whanganui, remained quiet even when there was conflict north and west of the town. But the military drill hall built at the new settlement of Marton suggested that the settlers were preparing for possible hostilities with Māori.
