Signing the Pākaitore settlement, 2007

Manawanui Pauro, a kuia (elder) from the Whanganui iwi (tribes), signs a deed of settlement with the Crown in March 2007. Ownership of the Whanganui court house and the land on which it stands, in Moutoa Gardens, was returned to the Whanganui people, and vested in the Pākaitore Trust on their behalf. The Ministry of Justice pays rental to the trust for the use of the courthouse.
