Kapiti coast
The Kapiti coastal plain begins at the settlement of Paekākāriki (middle distance). The coast is a series of sand dunes and river fans that have gradually built out from the foothills of the Tararua Range. Ocean currents have both increased and eroded the coastline. Kapiti Island is visible at top left.
