Overlooking Kapiti Island

Overlooking Kapiti Island

This is Kapiti Island from the north, looking south towards Cook Strait in 1997. The steep cliffs were created by uplift from an offshore fault and waves eroding the shoreline. Ōkupe Lagoon is on the left. In the foreground dozens of boats are taking part in an annual fishing competition.
