Story: Weeds of the bush
Introduced to New Zealand about 1950, blue morning glory (Ipomoea indica) is a tropical species. Here it is growing on bush north of Whāngārei. It spreads by sending out new roots from stem nodes. Broken plant pieces will form a new plant and increase the size of any current infestation. Its dense growth stops sunlight from reaching the leaves of trees and seedlings, killing both.
