The east of New Zealand can experience big temperature changes in a matter of minutes. As cold air coming from the south meets the warm air mass above land, there is a squally wind change, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms. In Canterbury, these southerly changes are sometimes referred to as ‘southerly busters’. This one was photographed in Salisbury Street, Christchurch, looking west as the southerly front blows in.
