Story: Weather forecasting
In the early 20th century New Zealand had more than 200 rain-gauge stations. Many of these were cobbled together out of available resources. The Waipawa rain gauge, shown here about 1930, consisted of a funnel and an empty whisky bottle mounted on a fence post.
