Pilgrimage to Te Rere a Kāpuni

At Easter in 1965 4,000 members of the Rātana Church gathered at Ōpunake in Taranaki. During the weekend busloads of people visited the sacred waterfall on Mt Taranaki, Te Rere a Kāpuni, also known as Victoria Falls. Services were held at the falls to honour the fact that the founder of the church, T. W. Rātana, had often visited the site to meditate.
