Tarawera Falls

These falls surge from fissures in a high rock face, caused by the eruption of Mt Tarawera some 11,000 years ago. This created lava tubes that carry the water through the cooled volcanic rock from Lake Tarawera. The falls are accessible from a walking track near Kawerau in the Bay of Plenty.
