Story: Wasps and bees
A new family of native parasitic wasps, Maamingidae, has recently been found in New Zealand. Maaminga marrisi is one of the two species in this family. It is found in alpine snow tussock as well as coastal scrub and forest, especially on offshore islands. The family name comes from the Māori word māminga – meaning trickster – as they evaded discovery for so long.
